Moulding in a modern living room: where to begin
Three decisions that help create a calm, balanced wall composition.
5 min readBegin with the room itself
Before choosing a profile, look at the proportions of the living room: ceiling height, wall width and door placement. Moulding works best when it follows the architecture rather than competing with the furniture.
Choose one recurring detail
A modern living room may need only clean wall frames or a subtle ceiling trim. Repeating one detail creates cohesion. Too many widths and ornaments can make the space feel busy.
Test the rhythm before installation
Mark the design on the wall with painter’s tape. Check how the frames relate to the sofa, lighting and outlets. Keep spacing consistent and leave breathing room at the corners. View the composition from several places before settling on the layout.
